A testicular ultrasound does not increase your risk for any health problems. In fact, ultrasounds cause no harm at all because, unlike other imaging technologies, there is no radiation involved with the procedure.

Ultrasounds capture images of the inside of your body using high-frequency sound waves. The transducer – a small, wand-like device – is always kept outside your body, making ultrasound a comfortable, non-invasive procedure.

In rare instances, our specialists detect severe causes for concern. If this occurs during your appointment, they will write to your doctor requesting an urgent appointment on your behalf.

During your health check, our ultrasound specialists are available to answer any questions and ease your concerns. They understand you might be feeling nervous and are prepared to help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Before your appointment, you will need to fast for four hours. This ensures your internal organs – particularly your gallbladder – can be examined.

When it’s time for your appointment, you will be directed into our examination room. Generally, your specialist will ask you to remove any clothing or jewellery blocking access to the examination area.

If required, you will be given privacy to undress. You will then be asked to lie down on the examination table.

Your specialists will apply a cool gel to the target area. The gel is water-based and suitable for sensitive skin – it can also be easily removed from skin and clothing.

Then, a small wand will be manoeuvred over the area, sending sound waves into your body and transmitting black and white images to a screen. The process should be painless – please let your doctor know if you experience discomfort.

Ultrasounds typically take less than 30 minutes. You will receive a high-resolution digital copy of your images the same day as your exam.

There is no particular type of care required after a female health check ultrasound. You may resume your regular diet and daily activities unless your doctor advises you differently.

There are no confirmed adverse biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposures to ultrasound at the intensity levels used in diagnostic ultrasound.

But depending on your particular results, the doctor may give you additional or alternative instructions after the procedure.
