Frequently Asked Questions

It can be difficult to give your health the proactive care and attention it deserves. But the truth is, your health is your most valuable asset, and it’s up to you to protect it. You might need a male health check to find, assess, and diagnose abnormalities.

Even if you don’t have any symptoms or causes for concern, a quick and painless ultrasound examination can detect any potential issues before they develop into something more serious.

In short, a male health assessment gives you and those that depend on you peace of mind. You don’t need to be experiencing pain or over a certain age to invest in your wellbeing.

It’s something you can do today, and our team of trusted professionals are here to make your experience comfortable and stress-free.

Our comprehensive male health assessment includes two ultrasounds performed by leading specialists – an abdomen ultrasound that looks at your internal organs and a testes/scrotum ultrasound that examines your reproductive organs.

Our specialists test for abnormalities, diseases, symptoms, and other causes for concern. Our health assessments check for the following:

  • Signs of inflammation
  • Lumps, masses, and tumours
  • Symptoms of cancer
  • Liver and gallbladder health
  • Spleen and pancreas issues
  • Aorta health
  • Kidney and urinary tract conditions
  • Testes’ health
  • And more

If you feel unsure or would like to learn more about what our men’s health specialists look for during our health check examinations, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are available to answer any questions and put your mind at ease.

No. You do not need to obtain a referral from your doctor or another healthcare professional to schedule a male health check at Harley Street Ultrasound.

We believe in empowering our patients on their health journey, which means giving them control over their care. We also support a proactive approach to wellness, and that means coming forward for an assessment with or without symptoms.

During your men’s health check, you will sit down with one of our qualified doctors and discuss your health risks and concerns. They will give you the answers you crave and provide industry-leading guidance.

Plus, the high-resolution ultrasound images from your examination will be available to you on the same day as your appointment via your computer, smartphone, or another internet-connected device.

Yes. Regardless of whether you are experiencing pain, inflammation, or other symptoms, you can book an appointment at Harley Street Ultrasound.

Why? Because we know health concerns can weigh heavy on your mind, especially if you have a family history that puts you at risk. We are here to alleviate stress with evidence-based answers.

Remember, there is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to your health. Our men’s health specialists are committed to delivering a professional service and an exceptional level of care – whatever stage of life you’re in.

A testicular ultrasound does not increase your risk for any health problems. In fact, ultrasounds cause no harm at all because, unlike other imaging technologies, there is no radiation involved with the procedure.

Ultrasounds capture images of the inside of your body using high-frequency sound waves. The transducer – a small, wand-like device – is always kept outside your body, making ultrasound a comfortable, non-invasive procedure.

You can return to your day-to-day activities immediately after your appointment.

Waiting for healthcare results is never easy, and that’s why we’ve committed to fast, effortless results delivery.

Harley Street Ultrasound’s patients receive their results on the same day as their appointment. Results include a comprehensive report and high-resolution digital images.

Then, if required, you can schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss the findings and roadmap your next steps.

Information empowers you to take meaningful steps in the right direction. If our specialists find something that raises a red flag during your men’s health assessment, they will let you know right away and provide guidance on the next steps.

Keep in mind that an abnormality is not necessarily a worst-case scenario. The issue could be totally harmless, and even if it isn’t, the good news is that you have caught a disease in its tracks and can move forward with treatment.

In rare instances, our specialists detect severe causes for concern. If this occurs during your appointment, they will write to your doctor requesting an urgent appointment on your behalf.

During your health check, our ultrasound specialists are available to answer any questions and ease your concerns. They understand you might be feeling nervous and are prepared to help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything that would improve your experience with us.

Before your appointment, you will need to fast for four hours. This ensures your internal organs – particularly your gallbladder – can be examined.

When it’s time for your appointment, you will be directed into our examination room. Generally, your specialist will ask you to remove any clothing or jewellery blocking access to the examination area.

If required, you will be given privacy to undress. You will then be asked to lie down on the examination table.

Your specialists will apply a cool gel to the target area. The gel is water-based and suitable for sensitive skin – it can also be easily removed from skin and clothing.

Then, a small wand will be manoeuvred over the area, sending sound waves into your body and transmitting black and white images to a screen. The process should be painless – please let your doctor know if you experience discomfort.

Ultrasounds typically take less than 30 minutes. You will receive a high-resolution digital copy of your images the same day as your exam.

There is no particular type of care required after a male health check. You may resume your regular diet and daily activities unless your doctor advises you differently.

There are no confirmed adverse biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposures to ultrasound at the intensity levels used in diagnostic ultrasound.

But depending on your particular results, the doctor may give you additional or alternative instructions after the procedure.

Many of our patients are concerned that if they come to us for an ultrasound, they won’t be able to go back to public health. That simply is not the case.

Our goal is to give you answers as quickly as possible and get you on the right treatment path fast – no strings attached.

When you come to us, you will be seen by a qualified specialist who can determine if your situation is serious or not that same day.

We don’t want you to wait weeks on end for an appointment because every minute counts when it comes to something as important as your health.

If your situation is serious, our specialist will write to your doctor on the NHS advising them that you need an urgent appointment.
