Dr Ayman Mahfouz

MBBS FRCR

Dr Mahfouz is a Consultant Radiologist and Joint Emergency Imaging Lead at University College of London Hospital (UCLH), his specialist expertise include breast, gynaecology and general imaging.

Dr Mahfouz is a Consultant Radiologist at University College of London Hospital (UCLH).

Dr Mahfouz qualified from Barts and the Royal London School of Medicine in 2009. After completing his junior doctor training at Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust, Dr Mahfouz attained his Fellowship at the Royal College of Radiologists whilst training in the East Midlands Deanery.

Dr Mahfouz has specialist expertise in breast, gynaecology and general imaging. He undertakes all aspects of breast imaging including mammographic (plain, contrast enhanced and 3D), Ultrasound, MRI and CT diagnostics. He performs all ultrasound and stereotactic breast related procedures including vacuum excision. He reports cross-sectional gynae imaging in an internationally renowned institute for the management of gynaecological disorders.

Dr Mahfouz has previously been elected as a regional representative for doctors in training at the Royal College of Radiologists. He is enthusiastic about education and continues to examine junior doctors at the distinguished Leicester FRCR 2B course which attracts candidates from across the world.

Dr Sangoh Lee

Dr Lee is a consultant musculoskeletal and trauma radiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working at St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals.

Dr Sangoh Lee completed his undergraduate medical training at Imperial College London. He subsequently completed general and specialist musculoskeletal radiology training at University Hospitals of Leicester and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.

He is currently a consultant musculoskeletal and trauma radiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working at St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals.

His regular practice includes musculoskeletal and spine imaging, image guided intervention, major trauma, and other complex orthopaedic and rheumatological disorders. He is very keen on medical education and currently lectures and examines at several national and international courses.

She obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003 prior to commencing Radiology training at Imperial College NHS Trust, and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2007. 
 
She was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist in 2012, and has specialist expertise in breast and general imaging. She undertakes all aspects of breast imaging including mammographic, ultrasound, MRI and CT diagnostics. She performs all ultrasound and stereotactic breast related procedures, including vacuum excision and breast lesion localisation prior to surgery.
 
Dr Hawtin is also the Training Programme Director for the University College Hospital Radiology training scheme, and is enthusiastic about education and training the next generation of Radiologists.

Dr Ali Abbasi

Dr Ali Abbasi is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at University College London Hospital.

Ali Abbasi is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at University College London Hospital.

He is a member of the British Society of Skeletal Radiologists (BSSR). His special interest is in sports injuries. He was part of the radiology team working at the World Para Athletics and IAAF World Athletics Championships in London 2017.

He regularly teaches Radiology trainees and examines on the King’s College Hospital FRCR 2B course. He delivers lectures and practical teaching sessions on Musculoskeletal ultrasound and intervention on renowned courses.

Dr Susan Jawad

BSc (Hons), MBBS, FRCR

Dr Susan Jawad is a Consultant Radiologist at University College Hospital London with a specialist interest in Head & Neck imaging.

Having completed core training in clinical radiology at St. George’s Hospital, Dr Jawad completed her fellowship at UCLH, which together with the sister units at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and at the Eastman Dental Hospital forms the largest head and neck unit in the UK.  

She graduated with distinction in clinical practice and clinical sciences from Imperial College London.

She has extensive experience in multimodality imaging of the head and neck for both adult and paediatric patients for the whole range of head and neck subspecialties, including oncology, rhinology, otology, audiovestibular disease, oral medicine and thyroid and parathyroid disease. Dr Jawad is able to offer the whole spectrum of ultrasound guided interventions to the head and neck including FNAs and core biopsies of the thyroid, cervical lymph nodes, soft tissue masses of the neck and the major salivary glands and she was the third radiologist in the UK to practice ultrasound guided radiofrequency ablation of benign thyroid nodules.

Dr Jawad is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and a member of the British Society of Head and Neck Imaging and the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology. She has co-authored radiological textbooks, including in the field of head and neck imaging and has lead a course teaching head and neck ultrasound to other ultrasound practitioners.

Dr Pattison trained in medicine at Bristol University. She undertook surgical training which included a period of breast surgery and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2001. She then became a lecturer in patient safety and subsequently undertook specialist radiological training at University College London Hospital. She was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist in 2014.

Dr Pattison is the joint lead for breast radiology at University College London Hospital and is also joint lead for quality and safety in the radiology department. She also undertakes breast screening radiology at North London Breast Screening Service.

She undertakes all aspects of breast imaging including Mammography, Ultrasound, MRI and CT diagnostics. She performs all ultrasound and stereotactic breast related procedures including vacuum excision.

Dr Mohamed Khalifa

Dr Khalifa is a Consultant International Radiologist at Royal Free NHS Trusts, his specialist expertise include interventional radiology.

Dr Khalifa qualified with a distinction from the University College of London Medical School in 2006.

Following his surgical training, he went on to undergo Clinical & Interventional Radiology training at London Northwest Hospital & Imperial College London. This was followed by dedicated Interventional Hepatobilliary, Onconology and Vascular Radiology Fellowships at Imperial College, Kings College and the Royal Free Hospital, during which time he attained the EBIR certification.

As well as general diagnostic radiology, Dr Khalifa is experienced and has expertise in both Vascular and Non Vascular intervention. He has developed particular interests in hepatobilliary intervention, management of complex vascular malformations, complex below knee revascularisation, fibroid embolization, tumour embolization & tumour ablation. He has specialist expertise in performing procedures via the transradial approach, using the small vessels in the wrist, which is less invasive and speeds patient recovery.

Dr Khalifa is currently pioneering the Prostate Artery Embolization service at the Royal Free Hospital – a minimally invasive technique used for treating enlarged and troublesome prostates.

Upon completing his training he undertook a dedicated fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology in Leeds, a centre of international repute. Here had the opportunity to learn from some of the leading musculoskeletal radiologists in the world. During this he published research into novel ultrasound techniques to help characterise soft tissue masses.

He has particular interests in ultrasound imaging and guided intervention as applied to peripheral nerves, rheumatological and sports related disorders. He performs a wide range of minimally invasive image guided interventions of the locomotor system to both diagnose and treat disorders.

Neill Patani is a Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon at University College London Hospital, with expertise in the management of breast cancer and all aspects of breast disease, including infection, benign conditions and risk-reduction.

With a particular interest in extending the scope of breast conserving surgery with oncoplastic techniques, including therapeutic mammoplasty and in the de-escalation of breast and axillary surgery, including targeted axillary dissection, after neo-adjuvant therapy.

He has experience with a range of breast reconstruction techniques, including nipple-sparing approaches and one-stage pre-pectoral implant reconstruction with acellular dermal matrix, in addition to lipo-modelling, nipple reconstruction and symmetrisation surgery.

Neill completed his training at the Royal Marsden Hospital with a National Oncoplastic Fellowship in Breast Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and undertook his Higher Surgical Training in London and the North-West Thames region, including Charing Cross, Hillingdon, Northwick Park, St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals, leading to the award of his Certificate of Completion of Training in General Surgery with a specialty interest in Breast Surgery. His Basic Surgical Training was undertaken at UCLH and the Royal Free Hospital. He graduated from UCL Medical School with Honours and was awarded undergraduate prizes and distinctions in Medicine and Surgery.

Neill plays an active role in teaching and training, he is a Faculty Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and National Representative for General Surgery Trainees at the Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Training Interface Group. He was a Surgical Teaching Fellow for Imperial College Medical School and Anatomy Demonstrator at the Royal Free & UCL Medical School. He also has an interest in quality improvement initiatives and is an Honorary Clinical Fellow for the national Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, with a role in evaluating and learning from litigation in breast surgery.

Research interests

Neill is an Honorary Associate Professor at the UCL Cancer Institute and Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow at the Francis Crick Institute, with an interest in laboratory, translational and clinical breast cancer research. He works collaboratively with scientists, oncologists and radiologists, exploring how breast cancer metabolism can be targeted for functional imaging and novel therapies. He is currently involved in clinical trials studying the optimal sequencing of breast cancer treatments and the de-escalation of surgery to the breast and axilla according to treatment response.

Neill has undertaken a PhD at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research, studying response and resistance to endocrine therapy, including the development of biomarkers to personalise treatment. He received 1st Class Honours for his BSc in Tumour Biology at UCL, investigating some of the earliest genetic events in the multi-step model of breast cancer development.

Dr Rupen Dattani is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Chelsea & Westminster NHS, a Trust Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and a Surgical Tutor at the Royal College of Surgeons Of England

Dr Rupen graduated from University of Wales School of Medicine in 1999 and undertook his basic surgical training in Oxford and Reading. This was followed by two years of research at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore for which he was awarded a doctorate of Medicine (MD) from University College London.

Dr Rupen entered higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the South West Thames training program and was able to tailor his training to complement his sub-specialist interest in shoulder and elbow surgery.

In 2011, Rupen obtained his Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS-Orth) and was placed on the Specialist Register (CCT).

Dr Rupen was awarded two prestigious fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery in Cambridge and at the internationally renowned Reading Shoulder Unit. Rupen has also completed a trauma fellowship at a Level I trauma centre in Vancouver, Canada. These fellowships have provided Rupen with a highly specialised clinical practice, exclusively in shoulder and elbow arthroscopic (keyhole) and arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery as well as surgery for fractures around the shoulder and elbow joints.
